Among the counseling profession, ethical considerations has reached a pivotal cultural turning point. Given the evolution of our society and diverse population demographics, it is imperative that the counseling professional begin to acquire the necessary knowledge regarding clients’ cultural background within an intersecting context in order to ensure sound ethical practice.
ADDRESSING the Status Quo: The Role of Ethical Multiculturalism in Advancing Cultural Responsiveness with Diverse Counseling Settings addresses the challenges that are faced by counseling professionals in regards to the delivery of ethical and culturally responsive therapeutic approaches, as well as highlight the ethical responsibilities of counseling professionals who provide culturally responsive services among diverse counseling settings. Furthermore, this Ethical Multiculturalism focused training will address the needs of including cultural factors in the process of ethical decision making from a multicultural perspective.

Presentation Objectives:

  1. Explore the ideas of values, ethics and morality in a multicultural context
  2. Identify the ethical responsibilities of counseling professional providing counseling services in a culturally diverse setting
  3. Discuss individual and collective cultural values, beliefs, biases and preferences and the impact each has on the view of ethical decision making from a multicultural perspective
  4. Apply culturally sensitive ethical decision making models to illustrated case examples
