Distance/Online Counseling

Traditionally counseling has been provided face-to-face with the therapist and client both together in the therapist’s office.

In recent years, however, it has become more common for counseling to be offered through other innovative formats. Specifically, technology assisted, distance counseling, also known as online counseling, virtual counseling, or “E-Therapy” allows the therapist to conduct therapy sessions with a client over the internet or by telephone.

Although we prefer to see clients in our office if possible, distance counseling can be particularly helpful for clients who are home-bound, have disabilities, who live a considerable distance from the therapist’s office or who travel frequently.

Because it affords greater anonymity to the client, distance counseling can also be helpful to encourage the client to be more transparent and honest about difficult or sensitive issues.

If your circumstances do not allow you to engage in traditional face-to-face, office based counseling or if for other reasons you are interested in exploring the possibility for technology assisted distance counseling, please review the information and contact us to schedule a consultation.
